Shuffle the deck thoroughly and deal each player 5 cards. Take turns in a circle selecting three cards from your hand and revealing them in a chronological order. On the first round the player immediately to your left will make a Hi Q poem from the cards, preferably in the order they are presented (see other side). Signify the end of the poem by making an appropriate hand gesture, point, okay sign, thumbs up, snap or whatever. Take turns in this manner. For 3 or more players the second round’s poems are told by the second player to the left of each player. This crisscrossing pattern continues over the course of a round until all the players have both told a poem to each other player, and had one told to them by every player.

  • Five cards to a hand.
  • Take turns in a circle.
  • Play three cards one at a time, laying them out or holding them fanned out for all to see.
  • The person to your left says a Hi Q poem out loud describing your cards in the order they are presented.
  • On your next turn, after everyone has taken a turn, the second player to your left will say the poem.
  • Crisscross throughout all the players until all everyone has had a turn to tell everyone else a poem.
  • Draw more cards at the end of your turn.
  • Try to use metaphors when they come to mind.
